Hello!

My name is Poppy Kay, I am an Illustrator and Maker based in London, UK.

I grew up in the middle of a big creative family in Bath, England.

When I was a kid I obsessed over illustrations, varying from wild scribbly ink studies by EH Shepard & Quentin Blake, to beautifully composed neat works like Herges Tintin & Usbournes’ Stephen Cartwright. I loved Animation too, particularly Aardman & Disney concept art books, and more recently find myself fascinated by Hayao Miyazaki and incredible film concept artists, that all give amazing character and gesture to their drawings.

I love to illustrate all kinds of people, kids in costumes, magical moments, grumpy characters, animals with movement.. all the while trying to capture an energy and emotion. Most of my work is done Digitally or hand drawn then tweaked for efficiency afterwards. I also really enjoy hand lettering and coming up with different font styles.

When I’m not drawing or being on mum duty with my 2 children, I work in the Film & Tv industry making Creatures and Costume FX. Ive been sewing and gluing my way through films & Tv for 20 years, on things such as Harry Potter, Snow White and the Huntsman, Batman Begins, Fred Claus, The Wolfman, Zingzillas, In the Night Garden, Dumbo and the Dark Crystal prequel.

I have been involved in a few publishing projects last year which will hopefully be announced later this year.. watch this space!
